Venezuelan nuclear power station to generate 4,000MW in the next 10 years

Caracas, 22 Oct. AVN .- The nuclear power station the Venezuelan Government will set in the country, with the Support of Russia, will generate about 4,000 megawatts of electricity during the coming 10 years, which will allow to diversify even more the sources of energy generation that currently depends on hydroelectricity.
According to the information given by the Venezuelan Ministry of Electricity, Ali Rodriguez Araque, the accord signed last week envisages that Russia will supply raw material (uranium) for peaceful purposes such as electricity generation and medicine.
Last October 15, in Moscow, Venezuela"s President Hugo Chavez signed an accord to build a nucleoelectric power station, which will enable not only to diversify the sources of energy generation but also to reduce the current country"s dependence on fossil fuels.
The Venezuelan President explained that the nuclear reactor to be built will be small and it will not be used for military activities. Besides, he criticized the fact that the United States President Barack Obama called in doubt its purposes.
Meanwhile, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev expressed that the nuclear accord will contribute with Venezuela to develop modern sources of energy, besides its riches of hydrocarbon.
“Our institutions are absolutely transparent and open. We want our partner Venezuela has a complete variety of energy possibilities. Though the country is rich in oil and gas, it needs to develop new sources of energy,” said
